Slow Chair- As with any piece of furniture created it is, in a way, healing. It allowed me to get out of myself for the time being and focus on what is in front of me. I have a restless spirit, and I feel the world does too. The making of the slow chair has helped me tame that spirit and I hope it does the same for the user.

Luke Malaney is a Red Hook based wood-worker and artist whose craft mixes whimsical, free-form design with robust construction and old world joinery. Trained in classic wood-handling techniques by Roman old-timer Remo Capoli, his pieces walk a fine line between furniture and sculpture without ever sacrificing the most acute attention to detail. His explorations blend the naturalistic with the dream-like while always honoring the importance of functionality and endurance.
