Mona Sunbol’s Biography A Saudi based contemporary artist, Mona Sunbol, is best known for her pottery enthusiast. her conceptual artworks are influenced by her life. In her childhood, she grew up missing playing with toys. This inspired her to participate in many art exhibitions and galleries with some artworks that express the concept of deprivation of toys during childhood. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Art. After that, in 2003 she obtained a master’s degree. Since then, she started her journey as an artist when she held her first solo exhibition in 2004 (Seeing the sense). Subsequently, she kept going on her path as a contemporary artist for fourteen years. Recently, she is pursuing her PhD in “Artificial Intelligence as a source for creating contemporary ceramics”. Her second solo exhibition, Negative; positive, was the closest to her heart. Mona’s creative drive reached its climax when her youngest daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy. She is a mother and artist in one, using art to turn her daughter’s diagnosis into beauty and love. The zigzags from the EEG became part of language that made Mona understand her daughter's condition, and from there she started a dialogue. In her third solo exhibition, she mixed ceramic with iron, the magic found in ceramic attracted Mona's attention. She experiments Mixing clay and metal to discover unforeseen colors and textures. This idea came from the human body that also carry some metals that are intricately entwined with clay which was first created from. That is why most of her artworks were inspired from human relations. Ceramics is a medium that requires patience. Mixing elements along with firing process are educating and open for her new challenges.
